Chock-A-Block is a board game released in 2024 for 1–5 players, 25–30 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Daryl Chow and its main mechanics are Tile Placement, Matching, and Pattern Building.
In Chock-A-Block, players build colorful apartment blocks bursting with life. On your turn, place one of two double-sided block cards in hand into your apartment building. Make a block of four or more spaces of the same color — at lease one of which has a "For Rent" sign — and you can take a neighbor on display and add it to the block. Neighbors don't have a color, but they have a pair of features, some combination of cats, flowers, birds, and underwear. You'll find these features in other rooms, too, and if you make a chain of 6/8/10 of the same feature, claim a matching scoring token. As soon as everyone has finished a 4x3 building, count your points from scoring tokens and unscored chains of at least four features. Challenge the vicious "AutoBlock" mode as a solo player if you love puzzles.
Chock-A-Block supports 1–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Chock-A-Block is 25–30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Chock-A-Block for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Chock-A-Block has a complexity rating of 1.5 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
