Fairy Tale Fluxx is a board game released in 2018 for 2–6 players, 5–30 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Andrew Looney and its main mechanics are Hand Management and Set Collection.
Fluxx is a card game in which the cards themselves determine the current rules of the game. By playing cards, you change numerous aspects of the game: how to draw cards, how to play cards, and even how to win. At the start of the game, each player holds three cards and on a turn a player draws one card, then plays one card. By playing cards, you can put new rules into play that change numerous aspects of the game: how many cards to draw or play, how many cards you can hold in hand or keep on the table in front of you, and (most importantly) how to win the game. There are many editions, themed siblings, and promo cards available. Fairy Tale Fluxx, illustrated by renowned folk artist Mary Engelbreit, brings the zaniness of "the card game of ever changing rules" to the land of "happily ever after", and the results are fit for a king! Gather Keepers to fit the current fairy tale Goal and you win — but look out for the Witch and the Wolf!
Fairy Tale Fluxx supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Fairy Tale Fluxx is 5–30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Fairy Tale Fluxx for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Fairy Tale Fluxx has a complexity rating of 1.5 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
