Gem Getter Galactic is a board game released in 2024 for 1–99 players, 20–40 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Daniel W. Young and its main mechanics are Set Collection, Tile Placement, and Grid Coverage.
In Gem Getter Galactic, you and your friends run competing asteroid mines. Uncover the riches of deep space, and balance the unique scoring conditions of each gem to become the gettingest gem getter in the galaxy! A game is played in 9 rounds. Each round you will... ROLL to determine which polyomino dig patterns are available, DIG your chosen pattern into the asteroid, and COLLECT heaps of gems with unique scoring conditions. Efficient digging of rows/columns and around boulders will reward you with bonus gems! Powerful fuels like Lithium, Uranium and Explodium will help you expand your operation even further. There are 8 unique asteroids to dig in, 2 roll sheets to choose from for plenty of variety, and a 4-game campaign with achievements to challenge experienced players. A game of Gem Getter Galactic plays in around 20-40 minutes, and any number of players can join you as long as you have enough sheets! —description from the designer
Gem Getter Galactic supports 1–99 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Gem Getter Galactic is 20–40 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Gem Getter Galactic for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Gem Getter Galactic has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
