Houblon is a board game released in 2023 for 3–6 players, 20–45 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Jérémie Dazy and Benoît Costechareyre and its main mechanics are Trading, Dice Rolling, and End Game Bonuses.
Houblon is a tavern game with dwarves! This party game with an ounce of trading, is a good immsersive way to imagine you sitting at a table of a turbulent dwarf tavern. A game of Houblon takes place in 5 rounds. Each round is composed of 2 phases: Event phase and Action phase. During the Event phase, a Event card is revealed and his effects are applied. It could be change many rules for the round, or challenge the player in some tavern mini-games. Next, each player is doing his Action phase. It is composed of one action, and a dice roll to win some golds or Lottery cards. During his Action phase, a player can buy or sell some hop, that will influence the hop rate. Each purchase will increase the hop's price, and each sale will decrease the hop's price. A player can also take and play some Lottery cards, that allow him to bother and challenge his opponents. But the Lottery cards can make him win some victory points, some golds, or some hop ! At the end of the game, the winner is the player with the higher score in victory points. He is proclaimed "Master of the Tavern" ! Houblon is a game with a lot of interactions between the player, and it is compatible with friendly parties and good beer. —description from the designer
Houblon supports 3–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Houblon is 20–45 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Houblon for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Houblon has a complexity rating of 1.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.

The credited designers of Houblon are: Jérémie Dazy and Benoît Costechareyre. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers.
