Junta: Viva el Presidente! is a board game released in 2010 for 3–5 players, 45–60 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Christoph Reiser and Sebastian Resl and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Dice Rolling, and Simultaneous Action Selection.
One of the great board game classics is the satirical Junta in which the players are members of the corrupt government of República de las Bananas struggling for power and money to put in their Swiss bank accounts. Junta: ¡Viva el Presidente! continues this idea. Several years have passed since the island was afflicted by unrest and attempted putsches. Since then, the army has lost importance; in its place, private militias do the dirty work. The members of the Junta live a reclusive life in grandiose estates financed by their Swiss bank accounts. The players belong to this Junta and now command their own private militias. And, as before, they rob their opponents unscrupulously and ambush the president as often as they can in order to become president themselves. The players must pocket as much development aid as possible, use this to hire new militias and extend their estates. The player who does this the fastest wins the game.
Junta: Viva el Presidente! supports 3–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Junta: Viva el Presidente! is 45–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Junta: Viva el Presidente! for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Junta: Viva el Presidente! has a complexity rating of 1.9 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Junta: Viva el Presidente! belongs to these categories: Fighting, Humor, and Dice. Its main mechanics are Hand Management, Dice Rolling, and Simultaneous Action Selection. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns.
