Keltis: Das Würfelspiel is a board game released in 2012 for 2–4 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Reiner Knizia and its main mechanics are Set Collection, Track Movement, and Dice Rolling.
Keltis: Das Würfelspiel recreates Reiner Knizia's Keltis gaming system as a dice game, with players once again trying to blaze through regions of negative points to reach sweet, VP-rich territory. Keltis: Das Würfelspiel has five dice (with a different colored symbol on each face), a game board, 40 wishing stone tiles, and 16 wooden playing pieces. On a turn, a player rolls all the dice, rerolls any number of dice once, then chooses on which of the five tracks on the game board he advances one of his four playing pieces. The first spaces on a track are worth negative points to whoever sits on them at game's end, so players must make sure to advance their pieces far enough to score points. Along the way, they also collect wishing stones, either by rolling two wishing stone symbols or by moving a playing piece onto a wishing stone field; a player also earns or loses points based on the number of wishing stones collected. After a certain number of playing pieces reach the far fields on the track, the game ends and the player with the most points wins.
Keltis: Das Würfelspiel supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Keltis: Das Würfelspiel is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Keltis: Das Würfelspiel for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Keltis: Das Würfelspiel has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
