Pax Penning is a board game released in 2024 for 3–5 players and 60–120 minutes per game. It was designed by Matilda Simonsson and its main mechanics are Roll / Spin and Move, Dice Rolling, and Negotiation.
Take on the role of small kings, local chieftains, and wealthy peasants who have been invited by the first Christian king of Sweden to participate in his nationbuilding. He has participated in the Danelaw, and saw how the Brits created a strong centralized kingdom, and the role currency played in that. He wants to do the same, but he can't do it without the help of the local movers and shakers: you. This would severely limit your strength, but perhaps you would be stronger united. Perhaps you didn't have much strength to begin with, and this is your opportunity to carve a place for your family in the new kingdom of the Swedes. Perhaps you can just marry your way into power, and secure your future that way. Either way, the world is changing. The end of the Viking age is here, and you better not get left behind. —description from the publisher
Pax Penning supports 3–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Pax Penning is 60–120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
Pax Penning has a complexity rating of 2.9 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Pax Penning belongs to these categories: Dice, Abstract Strategy, and Medieval. Its main mechanics are Roll / Spin and Move, Dice Rolling, and Negotiation. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers.
