Sheep Showdown is a board game released in 2024 for 2–6 players, 10–15 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Jesse Douma and Vincent Jassies and its main mechanics are Take That and Map Reduction.
Put on your shepherd's hat and grab your staff! You compete for the largest flock of sheep, but watch out for the sly wolves! Every move counts, so plan your route strategically and collect more woolly friends than your opponents. Don't be fooled by their innocent look; some sheep are not as friendly as they seem! Are you ready to embark on the baa-rilliant adventure of a lifetime? Let’s herd 'em up! In this take-that card game designed for 2-6 players, the objective is to capture as many sheep as possible before your rivals do. During each turn, players move from one card to an adjacent one and collect it, gradually shrinking the playing field and reducing opportunities to outmaneuver opponents. Players can also use special action cards to leap over cards, traverse from one side of the field to the other, or block an opponent's move. The game concludes when only one player remains in the meadow. Can you strategically think ahead and predict your opponents' moves? —description from the publisher
Sheep Showdown supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Sheep Showdown is 10–15 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Sheep Showdown for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Sheep Showdown has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
