Them's Fightin' Words! is a board game released in 2013 for 2–6 players, 5 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Anxietydecending and its main mechanics are Memory.
You take the role of an irritable cowboy, slinging insults from a deck of cards in front of you in order to be the last man standing. The game uses a starting word and a deck of second and final words distributed amongst all players. Everyone takes it in turns to say the first word, then all the words on the cards in the middle pile, then the top card from their hand (which is added to the pile) followed by the final word. If you cannot remember the entire phrase you take all the cards in the middle pile as one "hit". When you take your third "hit" you are out of the game. Hats are not required but cowboy voices are mandatory.
Them's Fightin' Words! supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Them's Fightin' Words! is 5 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Them's Fightin' Words! for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
