Tüfteln is a board game released in 2024 for 1–15 players, 15 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Reinhard Staupe and Jannik Walter and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling.
Tüfteln is German for "tinkering", and that's what you must do in this dice game to land a top score. The game includes a pad of double-sided player sheets, and each player has their own sheet, all showing either side A or B. The player sheet has a 3x3 grid of 2x2 squares with the numbers 1-6 being placed in six of the 36 spaces; the A side has a number of blue "bridges" that link two blue spaces in adjacent squares, while all of the other spaces are white, whereas the B side has six spaces in each of five colors, apart from the starting 1-6 digits. On a turn, any player rolls the two six-sided dice. On the A side, you place the die results in any two empty white spaces or in the blue spaces that make up a bridge. On the B side, you place the die results in two empty spaces of the same color. After fifteen turns, all of the spaces are filled, and you total your score, earning: 1 point for a square with four different digits 2 points for an adjacent pair of numbers 3 points for two adjacent pairs of numbers 4 points for two pairs of numbers placed diagonally in a square 5 points for four identical numbers 6 points for a straight of numbers in clockwise order If you score all six types of formations, you receive a bonus of 7 points. Whoever has the highest score wins.
Tüfteln supports 1–15 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Tüfteln is 15 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Tüfteln for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Tüfteln has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Tüfteln belongs to these categories: Dice. Its main mechanics are Dice Rolling. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Tüfteln are: Reinhard Staupe and Jannik Walter. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Tüfteln as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
