Anno Domini: Mixed Edition is an expansion for Anno Domini: Erfindungen released in 2014 for 2–8 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Urs Hostettler and its main mechanics are Open Drafting.
A regular Anno Domini set consists of 336 cards, with a description of a historical event on one side of the card, and the year (and sometimes specific date) in which it happened on the other. This small expansion set Anno Domini - Mixed Edition was a free giveaway by the publisher. It only contains 12 event cards out of 72 mixed cards without a common theme. Since this is not enough for a real game, it only comes with a brief summary of the gameplay. Those six different bags of cards can be recognized by the number of each of the first card in a bag: U001, U013, U025, U037, U049, U061. Each player receives nine of these cards (or less, if you want the game to be shorter), and may only look at the descriptions. Players then put in turn a card on the table, *trying* to put theirs in chronological order. A player may, instead of adding a card, claim that the order in which the cards were put is incorrect. In this case all cards are turned over and the correct years revealed. If the order was correct then the doubting player receives two cards and skips a turn. If the order was incorrect then the previous player, who accepted the order as correct, receives three cards. The first player that gets rid of all the cards wins. Bluffing is as least as important as knowledge in this game. Most events are rather obscure or are hard to date exactly. Anno Domini is a blast to play, it is a very enjoyable social event and you even learn something from it. Part of the Anno Domini series
Anno Domini: Mixed Edition supports 2–8 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Anno Domini: Mixed Edition is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Anno Domini: Mixed Edition for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Anno Domini: Mixed Edition has a complexity rating of 1.5 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Anno Domini: Mixed Edition belongs to these categories: Card Game, Bluffing, and Trivia. Its main mechanics are Open Drafting. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Anno Domini: Mixed Edition are: Urs Hostettler. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Anno Domini: Mixed Edition as an expansion for Anno Domini: Erfindungen. Expansions add new content, rules or scenarios to the base game and usually cannot be played on their own, so you need Anno Domini: Erfindungen to use it. Check that your edition of Anno Domini: Erfindungen is compatible, as some expansions were revised between editions.
