Barnyard Roundup is a board game released in 2016 for 2–6 players, 10–20 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. It was designed by James Hudson and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Take That, and Set Collection.
Family bluffing card game, aimed at parents and adults that are bored playing old typical games. Fun for both adults and kids, Barnyard Roundup is a game that doesn’t feel like a “task” to play for the adults and is on a level a kid would enjoy. The goal of the game is to collect the most valuable farm animals for Farmer Brown to sell on Market Day. You do this by playing cards face-down from your hand and declaring what they are, then giving one other player the choice to decide if you are bluffing or telling the truth. If they choose correctly, THEY get the Farm Animal card(s) you played, but if they guess wrong, YOU get the card instead. Whoever wins Farm Animal cards adds them to their collection. But you may also get Crows, pests that irritate Farmer Brown and count against you in the scoring. Collect the most animals by bluffing, baffling and out-guessing your friends! Score the most points and win the game! Barnyard Roundup is a family-friendly, appropriate game for ages 7 and up. We have played the game with players as young as 4 and had a lot of fun! Everyone in the family will enjoy this game, we have even brought this out on game night with the adults and had a great time!
Barnyard Roundup supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Barnyard Roundup is 10–20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Barnyard Roundup for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Barnyard Roundup has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
