User Comment: One of 6 map sets released by FASA to expand the available terrain for BattleTech, BattleForce and CityTech, this was the first map set to be released only in a paper version. This map set contained the maps "Desert Mountain #1", "Desert Mountain #2", "Desert Sinkhole #1", "Desert Sinkhole #2", "Rolling Hills #1", "Rolling Hills #2", "City Hills/Residential #1" and "City Hills/Residential #2". This Map Set was bundled up with Map Set 2 and Map Set 4 and the three sets re-issued as one item by FanPro, as the Classic Battletech Map Compilation 1. In Germany, this set was released by FanPro under the name "GeoTech II."

Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for BattleTech: Map Set 3 is 120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
BattleTech: Map Set 3 has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
BattleTech: Map Set 3 belongs to these categories: Wargame, Miniatures, and Science Fiction. Its main mechanics are Dice Rolling and Hexagon Grid. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The catalogue lists BattleTech: Map Set 3 as an expansion for BattleTech. Expansions add new content, rules or scenarios to the base game and usually cannot be played on their own, so you need BattleTech to use it.
