Bitin' Off Hedz is a board game released in 1996 for 2–8 players, 60 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by James Ernest and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Roll / Spin and Move, and Track Movement.
"Prehistory. Hot. Primordial. Dull. You've been dominating the earth for longer than you can remember. Then again, with a brain the size of a walnut, you've also been standing there for longer than you can remember. Nevertheless, you're completely positive that it's been ten million years since anything interesting has happened. So you decide to cajole your buddies into a suicide race across skull island. The winner is the first to hurl himself into a big volcano in the middle. The losers are everyone who got their hedz bitten off along the way." A very simple race game: throw your dice and move your dino. The track is rather long though and when parts of the track pass close to another part, players may throw rocks at each other which place you back at the start.
Bitin' Off Hedz supports 2–8 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Bitin' Off Hedz is 60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Bitin' Off Hedz for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Bitin' Off Hedz has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
