Buffalo Wings: Expansion Rules kit is an expansion for Buffalo Wings released in 2021 for 2 players, 60–180 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by J. D. Webster and its main mechanics are Hexagon Grid and Simulation.
The Buffalo Wings Expansion Kit expands coverage of the "Winter War" and "Continuation War" between Finland and the USSR, sometimes independent and then as part of WW2. The title comes from a plane -- the Brewster Buffalo -- which was woefully unsuccessful when used by US and British forces, but which the Finns adapted into a very useful fighter, which they nicknamed the "Sky Pearl." (Yeah, they liked it a lot!) The original Buffalo Wings issue game is popular because it serves as an 'intro' game to the entire "Fighting Wings" series -- games from J.D. Webster that are among the most popular air battle board games of all time. This expansion kit allows folks who want to get deeper and into more complexity with their games to do so while still using the intro rules found in the base Buffalo Wings game itself. To that end, we've included more "Aircraft Data Cards" (the handy charts which capture everything that makes one plane different from another), plus the bombers in the expansion game now perform as individual planes (they are rather generic in the base game). Best of all, the new map and ADC cards are still fully compatible with the entire Fighting Wings series of games!
Buffalo Wings: Expansion Rules kit supports 2 players according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. Variants for other group sizes, if any, are described in the rulebook of your edition, so check it before setting up a different configuration.
The listed playing time for Buffalo Wings: Expansion Rules kit is 60–180 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Buffalo Wings: Expansion Rules kit for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Buffalo Wings: Expansion Rules kit has a complexity rating of 4.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a heavy game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
