Chez Goth is a board game released in 2004 for 2–5 players, 60 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Steve Jackson (I) and its main mechanics are Take That and Set Collection.
Another game in Steve Jackson's humorous Chez Geek line. It can be played standalone, or with any other Chez Geek game. Card illustrations are done by the always-funny John Kovalic. From the publisher's web site... "Angst. Nookie. Roommates. Just another Friday night at Chez Goth. This stand-alone game puts a new spin on the award-winning (and all too realistic) Chez Geek. You're still living with a bunch of roommates... but now you're a Goth! Work at your dreary job. Spend your hard-earned money and precious time to accumulate Slack points... or collect Gloom when life turns against you. As it will! You can earn Slack for buying Clothes, Shinies, and Booze... or you can just Cough, Complain, or even Faint Dramatically, especially if you have an audience. And if you get very lucky, there might be some Graveyard Nookie in your future. Yes, you can combine these cards with Chez Geek and have a house full of Goths AND slackers. Fortunately, it's just a game... isn't it? "
Chez Goth supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Chez Goth is 60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Chez Goth for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Chez Goth has a complexity rating of 1.4 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
