Color-A-Do is a board game released in 2010 for 2–6 players, 20 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. It was designed by Daan Kreek and its main mechanics are Hand Management.
A variation of Fan Tan. 54 cards; 1-9 in 5 colours / 3 'joker cards' / 6 'give or take 2 cards'. On a turn, a player either plays a card or draws a card. Played cards are placed on the table next to previously placed cards. The new card has to be of an immediately higher or lower value and of the same suit, or it has to be of the same value and from another suit. Players can only play 1 card per turn. A joker card can be played at any time and at any place while a 'give or take 2 card' (used to have another player take 1 or 2 extra cards or to remove 1 or 2 cards from the table) can be played at any time except as a player's last card. When a 'give or take 2 card' is played it goes back into the stack of cards and the stack is shuffled again. The first player to have no card left wins.
Color-A-Do supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Color-A-Do is 20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Color-A-Do for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Color-A-Do has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
