Copy Cat Meow is a board game released in 2023 for 2–5 players, 25 minutes per game, and ages 7 and up. It was designed by Hiroki Nagaoka (長岡裕樹).
Copy Cat Meow is a card game in the Golf family of games, where the goal is to have the lowest sum of cards left in your hand. Each player is dealt a hand of cards and a number of coins. The first player can play any number of cards from their hand showing the same number. The card(s) played by this player are called the "copy source". The subsequent player has 3 options. First, play cards from your hand that match the rank played by the previous player; if you do, they pay you coins. Second, discard all cards played, draw a new card, and establish a new copy source. The third option is to call, by saying "Meow". The player discard all cards played, draws a new card, and if they have few enough cards in their hand, all players compare the sum of the cards in their hands and points are awarded. The player with the most points after a number of rounds wins.
Copy Cat Meow supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Copy Cat Meow is 25 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Copy Cat Meow for ages 7 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Copy Cat Meow has a complexity rating of 1.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
