Cultive is a board game released in 2023 for 2–4 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Laila Terra and Luciana Lima and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Set Collection, and End Game Bonuses.
Produce food and other agro industrial products, inside the forest, without causing deforestation, and yet using the synergy of various plants to enhance the productivity while preserving nature. This is the key concept of Agroforestry system. In Cultive, the players will seed and harvest many plants that are used in a Brazilian Agroforestry system, trying to match its bonuses and requisites by placing them next to a synergistic species. Using the common market to get the cards that you need before someone takes it. Simple and fast yet strategic game. Every turn players has 3 action points to use. They can seed plant cards of him/her hand; change cards of the hand for cards in an open market; or refresh the options in the market. After using their actions, the plants will grow and the players need to collect the available crops. After 8 rounds, the cards collected will be counted, and the one with the most points wins.
Cultive supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Cultive is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Cultive for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Cultive has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
