Dinosaurs Extinct? is a board game released in 2006 for 2–4 players, 40 minutes per game, and ages 5 and up. It was designed by Vivienne Springer and George Schimpf and its main mechanics are Roll / Spin and Move.
2 to 4 players compete in this roll and move children's game. The object is to be the first dinosaur to move from the prehistoric era to the 21st century with a live dinosaur. Along the way you'll have to fight the other dinosaurs and get past various "earth events". The earth events include "ice ages, volcanoes, earthquakes and meteorites". The game board also features "dino switch" spaces where you get to switch positions with another player's dinosaur and Time warp spaces, where you move ahead or fall back. Players may choose to be a Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Corythosaurus, or an Apatosaurus. Each of the 4 Dinosaurs has a colorful card with overlays. The base card shows the Dinosaur bones, the overlay shows the Dinosaur alive. As you get closer to extinction, you flip over the overlays to expose the fossil bones. For ages 5 and up.
Dinosaurs Extinct? supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Dinosaurs Extinct? is 40 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Dinosaurs Extinct? for ages 5 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Dinosaurs Extinct? has a complexity rating of 1.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
