Dwarven Miner is a board game released in 2013 for 2–4 players, 30–60 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Mike Richie and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Hand Management, and Push Your Luck.
Welcome to Dwarven Miner, a game that sends you underground to collect resources from a mine so that you can then use those resources to craft items for your patrons. In the game, you'll roll six custom dice in a push-your-luck style to see what can be pulled out of the mine. Craft those resources into all types of gear, from armor to magic wands to mithril swords. Patrons – which range from warriors and rune singers to alchemists and chieftains – are great and powerful dwarves who have chosen you to outfit them on their adventurous, mystical, and often dangerous professions. Each of them will require you to craft different items – and once those items are made, you can then activate those patrons. Each will earn you points and reward you with a special ability that affects the game. The first player to satisfy enough patrons to reach thirty points wins.
Dwarven Miner supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Dwarven Miner is 30–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Dwarven Miner for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Dwarven Miner has a complexity rating of 1.9 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
