Empire in Flames is an expansion for Mordheim: City of the Damned released in 2003 for 2–6 players, 60–120 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Anthony Reynolds, Steve Hambrook, Nick Kyme, and Mark Havener and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Dice Rolling, and Role Playing.
A wilderness expansion for Mordheim by scribes Steve Hambrook, Nick Kyme, Mark Havener & Anthony Reynolds. This new setting for Mordheim is intended to take the fighting from the narrow, cramped streets of the ruined city and out into the untamed and dangerous wilderness of the Empire. The Empire is a deadly place outside of the reasonably safe environment of its towns and cities where the law of man prevails. The deep, dark forests harbour bands of Chaos worshipping Beastmen, bandits, mutants and much worse. Games that take place in the Empire in Flames setting occur in the wilderness of the Empire. However, while they are in the wilderness, the warbands are never very far from civilisation. They simply travel to the nearest Empire settlement and re-equip there.
Empire in Flames supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Empire in Flames is 60–120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Empire in Flames for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
