Fate of the Norns: Gulveig is a board game released in 2014 for 2–4 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. It was designed by Andrew Valkauskas and its main mechanics are Auction / Bidding and Trick-taking.
Fate of the Norns: Gulveig is a highly competitive card game themed around the struggle for supremacy involving four clans of nordic gods and mythical giants. Play is simple and quick, based on bidding for a power total against the other players. The game is based on a northern European card game called "Tukstantis". The 4 "clans" have a parallel to classic card "suits" and achieving clan "supremacy" is akin to having a suit being "trump". Cards are dealt to each player, and then players bid for the three treasure cards in the center of the table. The highest bidder receives those cards. A trick is led, and players must follow suit if they are able. If not, they may play a card of another clan, but the combat strength is reduced. Advanced rules: - Certain cards can be swapped out for others that add another dimension to play - Players can be dealt "roles" which grant them access to 2 "powers": one activated if they lose the high bid, and another if they win the bid. The powers range from forced card exchanges to card value shifts. In 2016 the base game comes bundled with the "Dwarven Kingdom" expansion (PNH0301).

The listed playing time for Fate of the Norns: Gulveig is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Fate of the Norns: Gulveig for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
