Fleet: Salty Captains is an expansion for Fleet released in 2012 for 2–4 players and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Ben Pinchback and Matt Riddle and its main mechanics are Hand Management and Auction / Bidding.
Salty Captain (Set of 8 cards) The Salty Captain is a unique card that can be purchased during any Hire Captains phase by any player. It is the only card in Fleet that works that way and it is a great way to maximize your boats. The Salty Captains can be purchased instead of using a boat card as a captain. Salty Captains allow a boat to catch TWO crates of fish per Fishing Phase AND to hold EIGHT fish instead of just four.
Fleet: Salty Captains supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The catalogue lists Fleet: Salty Captains for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Fleet: Salty Captains has a complexity rating of 2.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.

The catalogue lists Fleet: Salty Captains as an expansion for Fleet. Expansions add new content, rules or scenarios to the base game and usually cannot be played on their own, so you need Fleet to use it.
