Forbidden Psalm is a board game released in 2021 for 1–2 players. It was designed by Kevin Rahman and its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Dice Rolling, and Role Playing.
Forbidden Psalm is a tabletop skirmish game set in the world of the Mork Bork role playing game. Playable solo, co-operatively or competively, players start by creating their warband of five adventurers, using random tables to add in flaws and features. Weapons and armour are purchased. The book contains ten scenarios which can be linked together to form a campaign. The game is played out over a 2' by 2' area, using inches to measure movement. Each scenario has a variety of goals to be achieved as enemies are spawned and attack. Once the scenario has ended -- either due to successfully completing it and escaping, or time running out (it works on a system of rounds), or the warband being wiped out -- experience is determined, treasure and items can be sold for gold, and characters can spend XP to improve their abilities. The game also includes instructions on how to generate scenarios, as well as a bonus cart-racing game.
Forbidden Psalm supports 1–2 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
Forbidden Psalm has a complexity rating of 1.8 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Forbidden Psalm belongs to these categories: Fantasy, Fighting, and Miniatures. Its main mechanics are Variable Player Powers, Dice Rolling, and Role Playing. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Forbidden Psalm are: Kevin Rahman. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Forbidden Psalm as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
