Freeze Factory is a board game released in 2021 for 2–4 players, 25–35 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. It was designed by Gil Druckman and Danny Hershkovits and its main mechanics are Grid Movement and Pattern Building.
Your big day has arrived! As a young engineer at the famous Freeze Factory, you have spent years developing a pioneering ice cream machine. It can scoop 3 different flavours at one into a cone. Today is your chance to present your invention to the world and treat your guests to delicious ice cream. But who is the best at operating the machine, getting the combination of flavours right and serving the most people? Aim of the game: The aim is to serve as many people as possible, collecting the most cones, by skilfully moving the flavour tiles. Gameplay: You decide whether or not to roll the dice. If you roll, the number you roll is your number of movement points. If you do not roll, you get exactly 3 movement points. If you manage, either during or at the end of your turn, to create a row of three ice cream flavours on the board that matches the flavours in one of the cones in your hand, you have served the cone and can place it face-up in front of you. Remember that the flavours must be in a horizontal or vertical row; diagonal lines or rows that go over the edge of the board do not count. If you have no more cones in your hand, you take a new cone from the draw pile. Game End: The game ends when a player who has just served a cone is unable to take a new card because the draw pile has been used up. The player who has collected the most cones wins.
Freeze Factory supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Freeze Factory is 25–35 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Freeze Factory for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Freeze Factory has a complexity rating of 1.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Freeze Factory belongs to these categories: Children's Game. Its main mechanics are Grid Movement and Pattern Building. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Freeze Factory are: Gil Druckman and Danny Hershkovits. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Freeze Factory as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
