Ham's Sandwich Shop is a board game released in 2022 for 2–3 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Kengo Ōtsuka (大塚健吾) and its main mechanics are Stacking and Balancing and Rondel.
There is a small house on the outskirts of town, a sandwich shop run by a hamster chef. The kitchen is busy as the chef snacks on food and the recipes keep changing. Will he be able to make a good sandwich? Ham's Sandwich Shop is a board game about making delicious sandwiches with a hamster chef who dives on the bread. The game is played by moving the pieces on the topping tiles arranged in a circle forward one to three steps, acquiring one of the topping tiles, and stacking it on top of the desired bread. The recipe changes depending on where the pieces stop, and when they match the recipe, you can declare the sandwich finished. When the sandwich is successfully completed, the player is awarded a gold star. The player who collects three stars wins. In the middle of the game, a hamster chef tile can dive onto the bread, but only the person who placed the tile knows whether the chef is working or snacking.
Ham's Sandwich Shop supports 2–3 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Ham's Sandwich Shop is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Ham's Sandwich Shop for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
