Koala Rescue Club is a board game released in 2024 for 1–100 players, 20–30 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. It was designed by Phil Walker-Harding and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling, Pattern Building, and Chaining.
Welcome to Koala Rescue Club! Koalas are an endangered species so it’s our job to protect them. In this roll and write game, you will plant new trees for koalas to live in and then rehome them safely. Each turn, a die roll determines which configuration of trees or koalas you can draw. Fill in areas to score points, and complete rows and columns to claim special bonus actions. Volunteers will help you by changing the shapes you can draw, and skybridges will open up new areas to plant in. And don’t forget to build hospitals to keep your koalas healthy! Koala Rescue Club is a puzzly polyomino game with two layers of decisions. First, you need to draw trees in specific shapes. Then you need to draw configurations of koalas on top of those trees. Cascading bonuses give you extra actions to work with, and merit badges give you goals to plan toward on each map. Koala Rescue Club can be played with any number of players, and provides exciting simultaneous play with an important message.
Koala Rescue Club supports 1–100 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Koala Rescue Club is 20–30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Koala Rescue Club for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Koala Rescue Club has a complexity rating of 1.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
