Machi Koro: Life is a board game released in 2023 for 2–5 players and 45 minutes per game. It was designed by Masao Suganuma and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling.
In 街コロライフ / Machi Koro: Life, the newest title in the Machi Koro series, instead of building up cities, players will use engine-building cards to collect "hearts", which represent different aspects of life such as hobbies or jobs, in an effort to ultimately exchange these hearts for "dream" points depicted on another kind of cards on display. The core mechanisms of rolling one or two dice and activating blue/red/purple cards remain essentially the same, and one can either buy another engine-building card or a card with "dream" points after rolling the dice and obtaining the corresponding amount of hearts. The first player to obtain 8 dream points will have attained their ideal life and wins the game.
Machi Koro: Life supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Machi Koro: Life is 45 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
Machi Koro: Life has a complexity rating of 1.5 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
