Nobody but Us Chickens is a board game released in 2003 for 3–6 players, 20 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Kevin G. Nunn and its main mechanics are Hand Management and Simultaneous Action Selection.
As sunset approaches in Littleton, Kentucky, Farmer Johnson’s chickens have had a hard day scratching, pecking and egg laying. But now it’s getting dark—time to return to the coop and get a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, a pack of foxes have found the coop and when the rats show up, they’ll snatch every chicken they can lay their fangs on, even if they have to make more than one trip to do it. Will the loyal guard dogs save the chickens from the foxes, or will a rat sneak in and snatch the best chicken for itself? Only you will decide! Nobody But Us Chickens is a fast-paced, Simultaneous Action Selection card game where players earn points by capturing chickens with their predators (foxes and rats) or protecting chickens with their guard dog. The game is easy to learn, but exciting and unpredictable.
Nobody but Us Chickens supports 3–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Nobody but Us Chickens is 20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Nobody but Us Chickens for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Nobody but Us Chickens has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
