Ocean Pods is a board game released in 2023 for 2–5 players, 30–45 minutes per game, and ages 11 and up. It was designed by Lee Miller and its main mechanics are Take That, Dice Rolling, and Die Icon Resolution.
Ocean Pods is a 2 to 5 dice drafting game for 2 to 5 players. You are a Marine Biologist with research objectives to achieve for points. To do this players must draft dice resources from various Oceans such as Krill, Cephalopods (squid & Octopus), Crustaceans (Crabs & Lobsters), Fish and Pinnipeds (Seals). These resources are exchanged to attract Whales and Dolphins to your pod by paying the resource cost for the animal cards in the open pod deck. However each turn the boats move to different Oceans blocking your options and plastic pollution leaks into the sea. Too much Plastic and the game will end. Players have to work semi-cooperatively to clean the plastic or they all lose. Should you sacrifce a turn to clean the Ocean? In this beautiful game only one player can win but all could lose! —description from the publisher
Ocean Pods supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Ocean Pods is 30–45 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Ocean Pods for ages 11 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
