One Page War is a board game released in 2023 for 1–10 players, 15–30 minutes per game, and ages 7 and up. It was designed by Haakon Gaarder and its main mechanics are Set Collection, Paper-and-Pencil, and Action Drafting.
An intense game where players wage war over five arenas of war: land, sea, air, politics and espionage. Arenas are won by creating the strongest combinations of numbers, and completing each arena also unlocks a special power with a limited number of uses. The powers get exhausted as they're crossed off, incentivizing players to claim them before their opponent. Will you bid your time by spreading your numbers as thinly as possible, or concentrate your forces early to access superior special powers? As both players always use the same dice rolls to generate their numbers, you cannot rely on luck to win. The game is a PDF file that can be printed on one sheet of paper and played using one dice and a pencil. Rules are also on one page, so that you can print it with the rules on the back of the sheet. Files are provided for both A4 and Letter size, and it can even be printed in larger sizes such as A1. Players who don't wish to print can use a PNG image file provided to play online. The game can be played with two players, as a team game with up to 10 players or solo. —description from the designer
One Page War supports 1–10 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for One Page War is 15–30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists One Page War for ages 7 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
One Page War has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
