Operation: Kindergarten is a board game released in 2015 for 2–4 players, 45–60 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Harry-Pekka Kuusela and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling, Area Majority / Influence, and Action Queue.
In the grim world of kindergarten, where juice is the fuel of chaos, where the playground is the ultimate arena, where the struggle against tantrums is real, the teachers, the guardians of order remain ever faithful, ready to jump in and take the ball away, if they have to. While the situation in the battlefield appears calm, hostilities may break out at any moment. The yard remains rife with dangers, and the tribes of kindergardeners shall be unleashed upon each other any minute now. Who will prevail in the ultimate battle between light and darkness, between order and chaos, between disinfectant and sharp objects? In Operation: Kindergarten, the players are teachers that are trying to keep children safe, and return them to their classrooms - and they will not stop at anything to do so, including disrupting their fellow teachers' routines. Using a dice placement mechanism, the players direct the movement distance & direction of children, affect where the retiring head teacher will be inspecting next, and decide on their own movement and actions throughout the day.
Operation: Kindergarten supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Operation: Kindergarten is 45–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Operation: Kindergarten for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Operation: Kindergarten has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
