Pandora's Legacy is a board game released in 2025 for 1–99 players, 720–900 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Rita Orlov and Alex Rosenthal and its main mechanics are Cooperative Game and Pieces as Map.
Pandora’s Legacy, TED-Ed’s first physical game, is an innovative experience that combines elements of jigsaw puzzles, escape rooms, puzzle hunts, and legacy board games into 12-15 hours of immersive, cooperative gameplay for 1-4 players. Assembling the jigsaw is only the beginning. To progress, you’ll need to solve puzzles found within the jigsaw, escape-room style. Some solutions will reward you with gorgeous and perplexing physical artifacts that are themselves puzzles that must be solved. Others will unlock the next set of jigsaw pieces that expand the illustration and propel the story forward. In this adventure, Pandora doesn’t just accept her fate after giving in to curiosity and opening her box; she is determined to set things right. That’s where you come in. Playing as Pandora, with the help (and hindrance) of your favorite Olympians, your mission is to corral the chaos you created when you opened the box. There's just one more problem...well, actually, 17 “problems”. Pandora’s Legacy contains 17 boxes. Box Alpha contains the pieces of the main section of the jigsaw. Once you assemble that, you’ll receive clues for solving the first puzzle hidden within the jigsaw via a companion website. Solving the puzzles unlocks more boxes. Some contain physical artifacts that are themselves puzzles. Others will reward you with more jigsaw pieces, filling in more of the illustration and advancing the narrative. The puzzles are challenging, but accessible to solvers of all experience levels. If you get stuck at any point, the in-game hint system includes more than 200 hints designed to gently nudge you in the right direction. Countless surprises await, all leading up to the climactic finale of Pandora's quest to set right the chaos she unleashed upon the world. —description from the designer
Pandora's Legacy supports 1–99 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Pandora's Legacy is 720–900 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Pandora's Legacy for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Pandora's Legacy has a complexity rating of 2.9 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Pandora's Legacy belongs to these categories: Fantasy, Murder / Mystery, and Puzzle. Its main mechanics are Cooperative Game and Pieces as Map. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Pandora's Legacy are: Rita Orlov and Alex Rosenthal. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. Designer pages on MeepleRules collect other titles by the same designers, which helps when you enjoy a game and want to find similar ones.
The catalogue lists Pandora's Legacy as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
