Pillage the Village is a board game released in 2024 for 2–6 players, 20–40 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Jesse Stone and its main mechanics are Take That and Simultaneous Action Selection.
Pillage the Village is a 2-6 player game in which each player takes on the role of a dragon competing to build the largest hoard of gold and not get slain by the knight at game's end. Using a phase system, players act simultaneously rather than taking turns, adding chaos to the feel of play. Each player can generally perform one of three actions each round: Pillage the village, which guarantees more gold but increases the likelihood of villagers killing your increasingly threatening self. Steal from another dragon, which gives you a chance at taking gold from another player with the risk of raising threat. Protect your lair, which prevents other dragons from stealing from you and lowers your threat level as the villagers didn't see you flying about. All gold earnings are based on die rolls, and treasure cards can have rule-altering effects. —description from the publisher
Pillage the Village supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Pillage the Village is 20–40 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Pillage the Village for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Pillage the Village has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game.
