Politrickers is a board game released in 2024 for 3–5 players, 20–40 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Reader on Jupiter and Anuc Kim and its main mechanics are Hand Management, Area Majority / Influence, and Negotiation.
In the muddy waters of politics, there are some surprisingly simple rules. First, follow the policy of your own party unconditionally. Second, oppose the policy of the opposing party. But today's friends can be tomorrow's enemies, and it's always more fun to betray than to be betrayed. So remember, you have nothing to rely on but your own political power. Politrickers differs from the usual trick-taking game in that it's a mix of must-follow and must-not-follow. There are two political parties in the game. You must follow the suit of your own party, and must not follow that of the opposing party. You earn points for contributing to your party's victory without upsetting the political balance symbolized by the Libra. Wield your limited political power skillfully to extend your influence, sometimes switching parties out of patriotic determination, sometimes declaring innovations that will turn the political world upside down. The path you walk is one of commitment and trust, or one of betrayal and intrigue. Either way, result says everything. —description from the publisher
Politrickers supports 3–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Politrickers is 20–40 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Politrickers for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Politrickers has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
