Scrap Racer is a board game released in 2021 for 2–6 players, 20–45 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Anika Richter and Sebastian Richter and its main mechanics are Race, Push Your Luck, and Dice Rolling.
Scrap Racer is a push-your-luck dice game that is suitable for novice gamers or seasoned veterans looking for a raucous experience. You are a daredevil Scrap Racer who knows only one goal: Win the race—no matter how dangerous! A race lasts for three laps, and whomever leads the field at that point will be the winner. Each racer needs boldness, tactical skills, and some good luck if they want to be the winner at the end of the race. On a turn, the active player rolls up to six dice (one at a time) and advances their racer according to the results. But be careful! If you roll doubles, you must draw a crash card and anything can happen—depending on the double you may get a boost or be slowed down, letting others catch up. However, you can gain bonus cards for repeated doubles that can make up for lost position, if used correctly. Using the unique abilities of the racers and collecting Boost markers, the players can manipulate the outcome of the race to their advantage. On top of all of this, players may have to fight for track position. Whenever two racers share the same space, a duel takes place to decide who will advance by one space and who will stay. Finally, crossing the finish line will shuffle the racers’ positions due to the effects of the goal cards. -description from publisher
Scrap Racer supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Scrap Racer is 20–45 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Scrap Racer for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Scrap Racer has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
Scrap Racer belongs to these categories: Dice and Racing. Its main mechanics are Race, Push Your Luck, and Dice Rolling. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The credited designers of Scrap Racer are: Anika Richter and Sebastian Richter. These credits come from the published game data and name the people responsible for the game’s design, not its illustrators or publishers. The catalogue lists Scrap Racer as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
