Sequence Cats is a board game released in 2013 for 2–6 players and ages 7 and up. Its main mechanics are Pattern Building.
In this variant edition of Sequence, the poker decks have been replaced by two decks each depicting 42 different breeds of house cat, from the Abyssinian to the Turkish Van. The board has been reduced from 10x10 to 7x12, with no wild corners. The Jacks have been replaced by Purr and Meow cards. As in traditional Sequence, the object of the game is for one player or team to form a line of five or more consecutive chips, either orthogonally or diagonally. Players take turns drawing and playing cards, using a card from hand to claim one space on the board matching the played card. 2 or 3 players can play; higher player counts are supported via team play.
Sequence Cats supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The catalogue lists Sequence Cats for ages 7 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Sequence Cats has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
