Six Sojourns is a board game released in 2025 for 2–4 players, 30–60 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Ryan Laukat and its main mechanics are Set Collection, Area Movement, and Area Majority / Influence.
Six Sojourns is a reimagining of Eight-Minute Empire. It's a short area control game full of tough choices, creative strategy and tactics, and high player interaction. Your goal in Six Sojourns is to grow your family and broaden their influence. Players take turns selecting a card from five on display. Each card has actions that let players build houses, gain ships, move, and gain new family members. The cards also have special abilities and sets of icons that represent your family's expertise in various trades: cooking, carpentry, sewing, shoe-making, art, blacksmithing, and jewelry. Each game, you only select nine cards, and you'll be faced with meaty choices each turn as you focus on trades, abilities, or the map. When all players have 9 cards, the game ends. Players count victory points and the player with the most points wins. Each sojourn adds new cards and rules to the game. You can customize your experience by playing the six journeys as a campaign or play through each sojourn in order! —description from the designer The KS Deluxe version contains all the boards and expansions in one box: Volcano Expansion, Economy Expansion, Foil Title, Metal Coins, and Storage Tuck Boxes. (listed separatly on BGG)
Six Sojourns supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Six Sojourns is 30–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Six Sojourns for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Six Sojourns has a complexity rating of 2.1 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
