Star Trek: The Enterprise 4 Encounter is a board game released in 1985 for 2–4 players, 60 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Bill Eberle, Jack Kittredge, and Peter Olotka and its main mechanics are Set Collection.
Captain Kirk, and the crew of the Enterprise, are sent on a mission to re-establish contact with Trelane, the Squire of Gothos. Trelane captures them and forces them to play a diabolical game. Trelane creates four Enterprises (one for each player) and places a few crew members on each. The remaining crew are scattered, marooned on worlds from their past. Sensors on each of the four Enterprises sense each other as Klingon battle cruisers. Each player must scour the galaxy and find a full crew compliment by gaining all six crew specialties and locking them down. Once a player has locked down Command, Science, Medical, Navigation, Communication, and Security positions, he wins the game.
Star Trek: The Enterprise 4 Encounter supports 2–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Star Trek: The Enterprise 4 Encounter is 60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Star Trek: The Enterprise 4 Encounter for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Star Trek: The Enterprise 4 Encounter has a complexity rating of 2.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game.
