The Convicted is a board game released in 2014 for 1–4 players, 45–900 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Mateusz Albricht and its main mechanics are Point to Point Movement, Cooperative Game, and Action Points.
The Convicted is a cooperative board game for 1-4 players. Fight for survival in a hostile land, expand your town and stand ground against continuous surge of enemies! In The Convicted players become convicts who were given a second chance to expiate their crimes. In order to prove their devotion, they need to colonize new lands in the name of the king. They start building their headquarters – town – with just a handful of footman, and a few structures. Through the development of fortifications, buildings, researching new technologies, gathering resources and training recruits they can transform their colony into an impenetrable fortress. Alas, the new world is full of indigenous inhabitants who by any means possible try to get rid of unwanted colonizers. Countless hordes of barbarians, forest people, ferocious monsters and wolf men with their beasts and war machines will spare no effort to storm the town and its defenders. The whole game-play consists of a campaign of 20 turns, ~45 minutes each (15 hours total). The use of random opponent selections and attack directions makes each game a unique experience.
The Convicted supports 1–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for The Convicted is 45–900 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists The Convicted for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
The Convicted has a complexity rating of 3.9 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a heavy game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
