The Legend of Zelda is a board game released in 1988 for 1–4 players, 45 minutes per game, and ages 6 and up. Its main mechanics are Dice Rolling.
The Legend of Zelda is a roll and move board game based on the franchise of the same name. Link travels through 6 different worlds attempting to rescue Princess Zelda. Before play begins, tiles are placed face-down on the board in each world. Players receive three heart chips and an attack die. The first player rolls the numbered die and moves Link a number of spaces as shown. When a player lands on a square, he/she turns over one of the tiles and does the following: -A magic tile that is found is kept until the end of the game. Finding this tile also allows access to the next world. -A monster tile is fought using everyone's attack die. The number of swords must be greater than or equal to the monster power shown on the tile. You can lose or gain hearts when fighting monsters. Once in the 6th world, the magic tile is "Triforce Princess Zelda". In order to keep the tile, the player must roll 4 swords and is able to reroll once if 2 or more swords are shown. If unsuccessful, the attempt is passed to the next player until someone succeeds. At the end of the game, hearts are totalled, each magic tile being worth 1 heart and the Zelda tile worth 2. The player with the most hearts wins.
The Legend of Zelda supports 1–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for The Legend of Zelda is 45 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists The Legend of Zelda for ages 6 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
The Legend of Zelda has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
The Legend of Zelda belongs to these categories: Fantasy, Children's Game, and Dice. Its main mechanics are Dice Rolling. Categories describe the theme and setting of a game, while mechanics describe what players actually do on their turns. Each mechanic links to a catalogue hub with similar games, which helps when you want something comparable.
The catalogue lists The Legend of Zelda as a base game. It can be played on its own with the components in the box and does not require any other title. Expansions, if any exist, add new content or rules on top of it and are listed separately in the catalogue with a link back to this base game.
