You can play using the basic scenario provided at the end of this booklet or create your own scenarios and stories. Alkemy is a skirmish miniature game. You will usually play with between 10 and 15 miniatures. All Alkemy games are driven by a scenario. The game system works on a turn basis, with a system of Action Points and alternated activation of Cards. The order in which you will activate your cards being very important. Fights are resolved using differently colored dice.

The listed playing time for Alkemy is 45–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
Alkemy has a complexity rating of 2.4 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
