Carcassonne: Die Windrosen is an expansion for Carcassonne released in 2012 for 2–6 players and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and its main mechanics are Area Majority / Influence and Tile Placement.
Die Windrosen is a six-tile mini-expansion for Carcassonne. Each tile depicts all or part of a wind rose (AKA compass rose). The red, full wind rose is a new starting tile, and divides the playing area into four fields. This expansion was released at Modell-Hobby-Spiel 2012 in Leipzig. Attendees had to go on a scavenger hunt to collect clues which would permit them to obtain the expansion from the Carcassonne-on-Tour booth. Short rules: Orange full rose is new start tile and defines the four quarters: SW, SE, NW, NE. Blue full rose (reg. backside) redefines the four quarters. Orange quarter rose tiles (reg. backside) are worth 3 bonus points if put down in the corresponding quarter of the playing field, e.g. the South-West rose tile put down in the SW quarter defined by the current valid full wind rose. Appart from that the roses have no influence on the play and the features on the tiles and other points aquired through the tile. The blue full and the 4 orange quarter rose tiles are shuffled in the stack at the beginning. Part of the Carcassonne series.
Carcassonne: Die Windrosen supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The catalogue lists Carcassonne: Die Windrosen for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Carcassonne: Die Windrosen has a complexity rating of 1.6 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
