Con Sonar! is a board game released in 2011 for 2–6 players, 10–30 minutes per game, and ages 12 and up. It was designed by Christian Boutin and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling and Command Cards.
A red storm is coming! From beneath the ocean surface, boomer submarines from the six nuclear nations are preparing to launch their radioactive payload. In Con Sonar! your goal is to sink more enemy submarines than the other players, while making sure your own subs survive. 12 submarines are placed on the "firing solution" board at the beginning of the game. Players play a fleet card to move a submarine up or down the board, by matching symbols on their other fleet cards or on the revealed torpedo cards, they can chain actions together and launch a torpedo. If a torpedo is launching, dice are rolled and the higher a submarine is on the firing solution board, the more likely it is to be sunk. Player score is based on the number of subs sunk, the number of surviving friendly subs, and various bonus objectives. —description from the publisher
Con Sonar! supports 2–6 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Con Sonar! is 10–30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Con Sonar! for ages 12 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
