Danger 13 is a board game released in 2007 for 2–5 players, 30 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Rüdiger Dorn and its main mechanics are Push Your Luck and Move Through Deck.
The active player each turn draws cards from the deck equal to the number of players but does not look at these cards. He then turns one card face-up and gives it to one of the players, including himself; he repeats this process until each player has received exactly one card. Each card includes a number from 0 to 5—the lower the better—and might also have an action or victory points! Each time a player receives a card, he checks to see whether his total equals 13 or more. If it does, each other player receives VPs from his own cards. The unlucky player with the total of 13 or more discards all his cards. Possible actions on the cards include veto cards (in order to say no to a card in the future), 13 --> 18 (raising your bust total to 18), lose your last card, and receive 1 or 2 VPs immediately. The German title of the game translates into English as 'That takes the biscuit'.
Danger 13 supports 2–5 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Danger 13 is 30 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Danger 13 for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Danger 13 has a complexity rating of 1.2 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
