Darklight: Memento Mori is a board game released in 2018 for 1–4 players, 60–120 minutes per game, and ages 14 and up. It was designed by Mauro Pane and Rhuadrhi Oliver and its main mechanics are Dice Rolling, Tile Placement, and Role Playing.
Darklight: Memento Mori brings old-school dungeon crawler action with original dark-gothic settings and deep strategic combat. Four Accursed (the players) bound together by a twist of fate, must fight their way though randomly generated dungeons to find lost treasure and acquire the souls of those they slay to extend their own life and use it as currency to survive in a world left in ruins by the coming of demons. Each player will take on the role of one of the four dark heroes which must survive and find their way to the Quest Room in order to complete a specific objective and win their current mission. Many things will try to stop them from terrifying and grotesque monsters to unexpected traps or events lurking secretly in the dungeons. For those wishing to expand their playing experience, the game continues through hazardous journeys where the Accursed must resolve player driven decisions which can prove fatal when the wrong choice is made. If they were to survive the journey, they would find a settlement where they can gather their strength, buy new equipment or participate in the many activities available such as jousting while building their own reputation to improve their standing with the locals. Darklight: Memento Mori is a living experience within a dark, mysterious world full of deception and secrets.
Darklight: Memento Mori supports 1–4 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Darklight: Memento Mori is 60–120 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Darklight: Memento Mori for ages 14 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Darklight: Memento Mori has a complexity rating of 3.4 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-weight game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
