Escape from the Moon is a board game released in 2023 for 1 player, 20 minutes per game, and ages 9 and up. It was designed by Hiroshi Kawamura (川村 有) and its main mechanics are Solo / Solitaire Game.
You were part of a crew working on a moon base, but the other crew members were involved in a mysterious accident during an exploration mission, leaving you alone on the base. The mother ship is in a satellite orbit of the moon. You're completely isolated, alone — when a warning sound rings throughout the base: "There is not much oxygen left. The cause is unknown. Get out of the moon base quickly. To repeat, there's not much oxygen left." Since the emergency power supply has been activated, it seems that most of the base functions are down due to electrical problems, which means soon the base won't be able to supply you oxygen, let alone communicate an SOS to whoever might be monitoring you. There is not much time left for activities. Can you restore the rocket in time and return to the mother ship? The challenge to Escape from the Moon begins, with you constructing a deck and managing a hand of possible actions to get yourself to safety, with success or failure depending on the decisions you make and the difficulty of your chosen scenario.
Escape from the Moon supports 1 player according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. Variants for other group sizes, if any, are described in the rulebook of your edition, so check it before setting up a different configuration.
The listed playing time for Escape from the Moon is 20 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Escape from the Moon for ages 9 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Escape from the Moon has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
