Gnomic Parliament is a board game released in 2025 for 4–8 players, 30–60 minutes per game, and ages 10 and up. It was designed by Channing Jones and its main mechanics are Negotiation, Voting, and Hidden Victory Points.
Gnomic Parliament is a cheerful, social, rule-changing game for 4-8 people, ages 10 and up. The playing time is about 45 minutes. Good judgment of other players and bluffing are important game elements. Each player is a member of the Parliament of Gnomes. The Parliament of Gnomes only works on its own procedures. The President of the Parliament proposes a law that changes these procedures. The law is then voted on. The parliamentarians have varying degrees of influence on whether the change is passed or not. However, they prefer to vote with the majority. This is considered particularly honorable. And honor is the most important thing for them. Each round, the "President" selects one of several "laws", being cards which have a slight rule change for the game, possibly giving points or extra votes to some of the players. Then the players discuss and finally vote on this "law", either yes or no, and possibly spending additional votes ("lobby votes"), to increase the chance of the vote going in their favor. Players who voted with the majority get a point. If the "law" passes it also goes into effect immediately, possibly giving extra points or lobby votes to some players. Some laws have a permanent effect, others only a one-time effect. At the end of the round, the Presidency possibly passes on to another player. Each game is very different because there are a lot more law cards in the deck than what can appear in one game. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.
Gnomic Parliament supports 4–8 players according to the catalogue. This range comes from the publisher’s listed player count, so the game can be set up for any group size within it. Some setups, rules and scoring details may still vary by player count, so check your edition’s rulebook for the exact configuration.
The listed playing time for Gnomic Parliament is 30–60 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Gnomic Parliament for ages 10 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Gnomic Parliament has a complexity rating of 2.0 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a medium-light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
