Hits & Outs is a board game released in 2025 for 2 players, 10–15 minutes per game, and ages 8 and up. It was designed by Ronald Halliday and its main mechanics are Push Your Luck, Deduction, and Secret Unit Deployment.
Hits & Outs (ヒット&アウト) is inspired by the strategic battle of wits between the pitcher and the batter. Reproducing baseball's thrilling moments without having to keep track of player statistics or the results of every pitch. As the name suggests, there are no balls or strikes in this game, only hits and outs! In each inning, players take turns at the plate and on the mound. When batting, you get hits and can move your runners by correctly guessing the base where the pitcher has hidden the baseball. If the ball was hidden at second base and you find it, you hit a double and can move your runners two bases. When pitching, keep the batter from reaching base and scoring runs by fooling them three times. Each incorrect guess is an out. The player with the most runs at the end of the game wins! —description from the designer
Hits & Outs supports 2 players according to the catalogue. This is the publisher’s listed player count, so the game is designed for exactly that number of participants. The listed playing time for Hits & Outs is 10–15 minutes. This is the publisher’s estimate for a full game. The actual duration depends on the group, the player count and familiarity with the rules: first sessions usually run longer, while experienced groups often finish faster. Setup and teaching time are not included in this estimate.
The catalogue lists Hits & Outs for ages 8 and up. This is the publisher’s recommendation and reflects reading demands, rule complexity and small components rather than theme alone. Younger players can often join with help from an adult, so check the age guidance on your edition and consider your group’s experience with board games.
Hits & Outs has a complexity rating of 1.3 out of 5 from BoardGameGeek players, which makes it a light game. The rating reflects how much rules knowledge, planning and decision-making a typical game demands. Expect a longer first teach for heavier games, and use a preparation guide before game night.
